The Supreme Court has disposed of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) suo motu case on voluntary return scheme related to corruption money.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandyal heard the case.
During the hearing, the Additional Attorney General said that the Supreme Court had itself taken notice of the reinstatement of the officials after the voluntary return of the money.
He said that after the amendments introduced in the NAB Ordinance in the year 2022, Section 25A will also be considered a crime and the punishment which was in plea bargain is now also in voluntary return.
The Additional Attorney General further said that after the voluntary return of the money, there will be a ban on holding public office for 10 years, so the purpose of the automatic notice has been fulfilled.
The NAB prosecutor took a position in the court that the present case should be heard after the NAB Ordinance Amendment case.
The Chief Justice inquired that all the amendments of the NAB Ordinance were not challenged?
The NAB prosecutor said that Section 25B was mentioned in the NAB Amendments case.
The Chief Justice remarked that the public servant used to pay money to get clean and then do the same, the loopholes in the law have been removed, this amendment is a good amendment.
The court said that other petitions attached to the case would be heard separately.
It should be noted that on September 9, 2016, the Supreme Court had taken suo motu notice on the law regarding the NAB Voluntary Refund Scheme.
